Gufram Massolo coffee table by Piero Gilardi (Limited Edition of 500), one of Gufram's works inspired by nature, the appearance of a large brick highlights the designer's irony and love for surrealism.

The Porfido label on the surface of the table amplifies the surreal sense of the work, which is extremely subversive and innovative. Despite its rock-hard appearance, Massolo weighs only 13kg.

Massolo is handcrafted from a rough cut piece of polyurethane with 12 coats of paint in 8 different colours to obtain the desired colour and gloss, from cutting to engraving and colouring by hand by Gufram artisans.

Key Features and Design

  • Material: It is handcrafted from soft polyurethane foam and finished with Gufram's patented Guflac coating, which allows the foam to remain flexible while mimicking the texture and shine of stone.

  • Visual Irony: The table features the word "PORFIDO" (Italian for porphyry) carved into its side, playfully highlighting the contrast between its appearance and its actual soft material.

  • Craftsmanship: Each unit is hand-finished with 12 layers of dripping paint in 8 different colours to achieve its realistic stone effect, making every piece unique.

  • Limited Edition: The original design is typically produced in limited editions, such as the widely cited run of 500 pieces.

Artistic Context

Gilardi, a representative of the Arte Povera movement, designed the Massolo to challenge traditional perceptions of furniture. It is currently held in prestigious collections, including the Vitra Design Museum and the Art and Design Museum of Brussels
