Gufram x Paul Smith Sunrise Cactus
The Sunrise Cactus is a limited-edition collaboration between British fashion designer Paul Smith and the Italian radical design brand Gufram. Originally designed in 1972 by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello, this 2023 reinterpretation features a soft, hand-finished polyurethane body painted with Gufram's patented Guflac® paint to maintain flexibility.
Design and Symbolism
The piece features an optimistic ombré gradient inspired by daybreak, transitioning from soft yellow at the base through shades of orange and pink to a bright blue at the top.
Inscribed on its base is Paul Smith’s guiding philosophy: "Every day is a new beginning".
The launch coincided with the reopening of the renovated Paul Smith Melrose Avenue boutique in Los Angeles, symbolising growth and transformation.
Only 169 pieces produced.
Approximately 170 cm in height and weighs about 22 kg.
